Beneath a cloud of 1000 square metres of billowing white sail, upon a vast expanse of wide teak decks is a sailing experience like few before her. Meticulously built to the original 1910 design, Elena cuts through the waves with the grace of bygone times. Yet, this is very much a vessel of the modern age. The latest navigation and communication equipment, entertainment systems and air conditioning make sailing her a serene experience, without in any way diluting the thrill of traditional yachting. With luxurious accommodation for up to ten guests, Elena will be the belle of the ball wherever she goes, and will be the envy of all those who see her.
There is something indelibly evocative about the great racing schooners of the early 20th century. Hand built by the most skilled shipwrights in an age where a fast yacht was a beautiful yacht; Elena was one of the fastest yachts in commission when she was first launched. Today she will line up against the other great beauties of her day – Mariette, Altair, Lulworth, and the reproduction of her sistership, Westward, in the form of Eleonora.
This modern day Elena has been meticulously constructed in steel to the original design using 320 hand-drawn plans supplied by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston and information from the family-run Herreshoff design office in Bristol, Rhode Island.
The result is an astonishingly elegant yacht. She has the feel of a traditional racing schooner, including towering wooden masts and extensive sailplan, coupled with modern day luxuries below deck.
Elena sails with the power of a thoroughbred racer.
Hers is a world beyond imagination.
